Companion Dog Club - Dog Events

Doggy Pub Night Tuesday 11 November Barney, Eddy and two dogs called Toby had a great time at the Doggy Pub Night! There were heaps of prizes raffled off with almost every dog in attendance receiving a prize donated by Purina and supporters of the Flying Duck's Regular Pub night - but Neva was the lucky girl who won the major prize full of meaty bones and steaks! If her brother Toby is nice she might even share. The Doggy Pub Night was hosted by the Flying Duck Hotel in Prahran. They especially opened up their doors for the Companion Dog Club on a Tuesday night, but they regularly have Mad Dog Mondays to which patrons are invited to bring their dogs and enjoy a drink and a meal in the lovely beer gardens. Visit their website for location and menu Wine and Dog Biscuit Tasting Saturday 12 July This event not only featured wine tasting for the grown-up humans, but also Purina biscuit tasting for the canines of the group. A group of Leonbergers and their owners came along, which gave everyone a chance to meet these, big lovely dogs which are a rare breed in Australia. Thanks so much to dog-friendly Tuck's Ridge Winery for their hospitality. And to Purina who made sure every dog their went home with plenty of delicious food samples. We had about 30 people in attendance. The Golden Retrievers, Leonbergers and even a Belgian Shepherd decided to go for a swim in the dam. They were wet and muddy, but didn't seem to feel the cold. A great time was had by all and this is definitely an event that will be added permanently to our annual calendar. Dear Karen and Companion Dog Club, Thank you SO much for organising the fantastic Wine and Dog Biscuit Tasting event on Saturday, 12 July. We and our twin Golden Retrievers had a wonderful time! Jake was in his element making lots of new friends in the off-lead area, and we were very proud of Sophie for going out of her comfort zone and making a real effort to socialise with other pooches. They both LOVED frolicking with their new friends in the lake. Our exhausted fur-kids slept exhausted all the way home, and because they had such a great time, we didn't mind the wet-dog smell in car too much. Many thanks – we can’t wait until the next event! Purina Pro Plan provided snacks for all the dogs and made sure every attendee left with a bag of Pro Plan to keep their glammed up pooches looking and feeling their best! Purina went all out to make sure every human and canine in attendance had a fabulous time!

Here are some more snaps courtesy of Paws 4 A Moment: A friendly Australian Shepherd is introduced to a Collie as they take a break from the fun of the Glamour Night. It's exhausting being massaged and primped! Lyn explains the importance of having the right type of brush while her Springer Spaniel, Boston shows off his new glitzy collar. These glamourous Golden Retrievers loved being pampered, but not nearly as much as they loved the thought of the cheese up on the people-food table. It's hard to resist those gorgeous eyes.

Congratulations on such a well run evening. The pet owners that I talked to were really pleased to be out and about with their dogs.

The Companion Dog Club can only grow.

Mostly I was impressed to see so many young people tonight. There were two children there with their dog, and they were a delight. They were so forgiving of my puppy's boisterous behaviour.

Walking and Talking with CDC

Our October Walk and Talk was the night before Halloween, which seemed like a great excuse to dress our dogs up in adorable costumes:

These Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers decided to become a flower and a jester for the evening.

These Golden Retrievers look like they are representing their mum's conscience - angel on one side and devil on the other.

Another little devil joined the party

No devils here! These Bedlington Terriers are dressed as lovely pink and purple fairies.

Melbourne Cup was just around the corner so this Golden Retriever decided to be both horse and jockey with a bright yellow saddle and a little green cap.

These chocolate Labrador Retrievers know that there is another holiday just around the corner! Hopefully Santa will bring them some treats for their efforts.

Purina Pro Plan gave great prizes to the dogs in costume and all the dogs in attendance got rawhide munchy sticks to chew on while the humans listened to Mal Lynch present information on canine massage.

Dr Ley discusses some common canine behavioural problems

Dr Jacqui Ley of Animal Behaviour Consultations came along for our July Walk and Talk to discuss behavioural problems and when it becomes necessary to call in an expert.

Purina was there to give out samples of their new holistic line of Pro Plan dog food called Pro Plan Select.

Companion Dog Club offers a great opportunity to socialise your dog with other dogs and people at casual and fun events. It is good fun for the dogs, but more importantly a properly socialised dog will be better behaved and even more fun to have around.

The final Thursday of each month is Companion Dog Club Walking Night.

As the days are getting longer and warmer, please note that from October to April we will meet at 7:00 and continue our summer walks around the park.

Then why not start up your own Companion Dog Club walking event? Email us and let us know at which dog-friendly park you prefer to do your walking and we'll do our best to find other members in your area who are also looking for walking buddies.

If you'd like to organise a dog walk, BBQ or just a coffee and a chat at your local dog-friendly cafe just let us know the date, time and place.

If you want to make it an open event, we can send an email and post the details on the website.
However, if you'd prefer it to be a members-only event we will only send out an email.
